Who? Teens 13+ and adults. Open to all skill levels (novice and above) who want to elevate their hand-building skills.
You've asked for it: a whole session dedicated to the art of hand-building! Learn how to make unique work using pinch, coils, slump, and slab techniques -- as well as compound combinations -- in this project-based curriculum that culminates with surface design. After this session, you'll be able to apply these concepts to functional and sculptural ceramic forms. This class is designed to refine your handwork with clay.

Who? Beginners/all levels - Teens 13+ and adults
This pottery course is full of ways to fall in love with clay! Whether you’ve never worked with clay or are returning, you’ll start with the basics of hand-building to make functional pieces like plates, mugs, and vases using slabs, textures, and coil. You'll also learn wheel throwing, centering and opening cylinders, cups, and bowls. If you've taken a previous lesson, continue where you left off with new demos and techniques. This class blends levels and is super fun and encouraging. We meet you at your level! Learn finishing techniques, firing, and glazing. Class time will be hands on with time to practice.
Includes:
25 lbs of clay, bisque, and glaze firing (more clay may be purchased in studio)
Tech supported open studio/week - independent practice
Basic toolkit required (add to your cart or bring your own).
Bring your own apron, or buy one of ours and prepare to get muddy!

Who? Teens 13+ and adults. First-time wheel throwers and those who have taken an introductory wheel class.
Have you always wanted to try the potter's wheel, or have you taken an introduction to wheel class and want to continue to practice and learn? In this basic potter's wheel throwing course, you will focus on centering, opening, and making cylinders, cups, bowls, and more. If you've taken an intro class already, we will work with you to throw higher and make different forms. You'll experiment with trimming and surface treatments, plus learn glazing and under-glazing techniques. The class is hands-on instruction, and practice, practice, practice!
Includes:
25 lbs of clay, bisque, and glaze firing (more clay can be purchased in studio). Specialty clays are available for additional fee.
One 2- or 3-hour tech-supported Open Studio/week - independent practice (studio techs are available for questions).
Basic toolkit, reclaim bucket with lid and aprons required. Add to your cart if you need a new one and start your pottery tool obsession.
Bring your own apron, or buy our new Centered Clay branded split leg apron, and prepare to get muddy!
Prerequisite: able to throw a 6" cylinder, create open forms and know hand-building basics, or have taken two 8-week classes.

Who? Teens 13+ and adults who are further along on their pottery journey.
This intermediate pottery course is designed to build on and challenge your skills. You'll learn to build higher and more consistently, learn new throwing techniques, alter shapes, and create compound forms. You'll also continue adding new decorative applications.
Students will have 3 hours of Open Studio/week to practice.
Includes:
25 lbs of clay, bisque and glaze firing (more clay can be purchased in studio). Specialty clays are available for additional fee due at the start of the session.
Sometimes we get very experimental, such as with colored clays and dramatic surfaces. Additional materials fee may apply, but you can opt out of that demonstration.
Basic toolkit required. Add to your cart if you need a new one and start your pottery tool obsession.
Bring your own reclaim bucket and lid and apron, or rock it in our new Centered Clay Studio split leg apron - and get muddy!

Who? Teens (16+) and adults – strong beginner and intermediate potters who are looking to improve their wheel skills through a concentrated program on hand placement.
When? Friday afternoons this fall. Each 3 session class is it's own course. This class comes with weekly Open Studio. Clay is purchased separately.
Where? In the Clay Nook, This space is not ADA compliant, there are 3 steps
Bootcamp I: Wheel Mechanics - September 19th, 26th and October 3rd.
If you're not moving forward with wheel and need to evaluate why you're stuck, this is for you. Examine hand placement and throwing fundamentals while getting insights on where you can make changes with results. The goal of this course is to learn what you're currently doing that isn't working and introduce new throwing techniques.
Bootcamp II: Find your voice, Design with Intent - When October 10th, 17th, and 24th
Learn the value of intentional design for a body of work. Explore differnt surface treatments and shapes that can evolve regardless of the form. Great for those who say " The clay tells me what to make" and want to break that pattern. Leads up to the tableware bootcamp!
Bootcamp III: Tableware for Two
When: October 31, November 7th and 14th, 12 - 3 pm
Develop a body of work by creating a tableware collection for 2 place settings incorporating a design throughout. (There is an option to create 2 additional place settings see registration.)

Bootcamp includes: Three 3-hour workshop sessions, 3 Open Studios, bisc and glaze firings. Clay is not included, students purchase clay separately. Bringing your own bats is recommended if you cannot attend Open Studio in between sessions.
Students will receive a supplies list upon registration
POLICY FOR CANCELLATIONS, REFUNDS, AND CHANGING CLASSES:
• If you register for the wrong class, please email debby@centeredclaystudio.com to be transferred. Do not double book, or you will be charged a change of registration fee of 6%. (Our registration system requires an admin to make the change, or a new order is generated, hence the 6% fee.)
• Cancellations 48 hours or more before the class start time will be processed minus a 6% transaction fee.
• Withdrawals on week 1 of class will get a 50% refund.
• No refunds are given after the first week.
• If you need to make a class change within the same semester, please email debby@centeredclaystudio.com or call 717-860-1507.
We require a minimum of 6 students to hold a class. We will notify you within 7 days of the class start time and refund 100% of the price if a class cannot be held.
Thank you for understanding. Our instructors schedule far in advance and we want to be respectful of their time.
